Ash-throated Flycatcher (Myiarchus cinerascens) - Flycatchers of the Myiarchus genus are common medium-sized birds throughout most of the lower 48 states. However the eastern species is the Great-crested Flycatcher, which is quite similar to the pictured bird but with a darker gray throat and more intense yellow belly. A diagnostic difference is seen in the tail. In the Ash-throated, the rufous color of the central tail feathers does not extend to the tip, as it does on the Great-crested. This western flycatcher is a rare but regular visitor to Louisiana, usually in winter and only very rarely as late as April. This bird was found on 1 April 2009 in City Park by Denise L'Hoste.
