Sapa was established as a hill station by the French in the 1920s. It now attracts tourists with spectacular views, the diverse cultures of the tribal minorities which live in the area, and the opportunity to trek in this lush environment to the villages of the Hmong, Dao, Kinh, and other ethnic minorities.
